However, the FBR chairman made it clear that the Tajir Dost Scheme will not be rolled back.

It is important to mention that the FBR chairman invited the traders of Pakistan for talks after they announced a country-wide strike on August 28.

The FBR chairman stated that Pakistan is one of the few countries where retail and wholesale tax is not levied, adding that it is not feasible to tax the weak more than the powerful.

Rashid Mahmood suggested revising the market rate and advance income tax mechanisms to avoid placing unnecessary burdens on small shops.

Langrial assured the traders that a transparent mechanism for advance income tax would be introduced and announced that they would receive good news soon.

During the meeting, the traders presented all their proposals to the FBR Chairman.

Meanwhile, the traders announced that they will proceed with the nation-wide strike as scheduled if the government does not amend the Tajir Dost Scheme.

“Amendments should be made to the Tajir Dost Scheme, or we will observe a strike on August 28,” trade leader Sharjeel Goplani told a private TV channel.
