KARACHI: Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Rashid Mahmood Langrial, has announced that cars will be purchased for young officers. He said these vehicles are necessary for operations and sales tax inspections.
According to a private TV channel report, FBR Chairman Rashid Langrial said that the objections raised by the Senate Committee were addressed respectfully. He assured that the FBR will meet its tax collection targets and clarified that no forecasting work has started yet.
Langrial also clarified that Karachi records the highest tax collection because many large companies and multinational headquarters are based there. On concerns about tax revenue not being spent in Karachi, he said this issue is determined by financial policies, federalism, and the constitution.

The Senate Finance Committee had earlier objected to the purchase of 1,010 vehicles for FBR officers at a cost of Rs. 6 billion.
It suggested linking the purchase with achieving tax targets. The committee’s chairman also wrote to the finance minister, requesting the funds be stopped.
Langrial further mentioned that the Competition Commission should address cement price issues. He said tracking systems will be installed in trucks and cars within 2 to 3 months.
