Punjab launches air ambulance service; first patient moved from Mianwali to Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: A rescue air ambulance successfully transferred a patient for the first time in the country through an initiative led by Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Halima Bibi, a Forty year-old woman from Mianwali who suffered paralysis after falling from a roof two days ago, was transferred by air ambulance.

It was essential to move her to a larger hospital for urgent treatment. The surgeon at the district headquarters hospital in Mianwali recommended transferring her to Rawalpindi.

Following Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s directive, Halima Bibi was airlifted from Mianwali to Rawalpindi within the critical “golden hour,” under the oversight of Dr. Raza Nasir.

This trial of the rescue air ambulance is a major milestone. Halima Bibi’s family thanked Maryam Nawaz Sharif, saying, “She has been like an angel to us.”

Punjab CM Highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating, “Timely and quality healthcare is the right of every citizen of Punjab, and it will be ensured.”

On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CM Maryam Nawaz stated, “Alhamdulillah, another promise made to the people of Punjab has been fulfilled as per Nawaz Sharif’s directives.”

Maryam also announced the start of Pakistan’s first air ambulance operations and emphasized the rapid rescue and transfer of the critically injured patient.
