Punjab CM approves major development projects for Murree

ISLAMABAD: Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, and Nawaz Sharif, President of PML-N, presided over a five-hour meeting during which they endorsed the Murree development plan.

The meeting approved projects for development, beautification, transport, construction, and rehabilitation, following a detailed briefing by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb.

Approval was also granted for the Rawalpindi to Murree Tourist glass train project, and it was decided to hire an international consultant for the project.

A decision was made to remove high-rise hotel buildings obstructing the natural scenery of Mall Road. It was also agreed to relocate the hotels from GPO Chowk to an alternative location.

It was instructed to implement a uniform appearance, signs, and color schemes for the old buildings on Mall Road.

It was decided to restore the old names of cities, areas, and historical buildings, including that of Murree. Amendments to the building laws for construction in Murree and the transfer of approval power to the provincial level were also approved.

An in-principle decision was made to take action against officials who permitted illegal constructions. A comprehensive short, medium, and long-term plan for the supply of drinking water was also presented.

It was informed that the existing system will be repaired and restored, making it possible to supply over 600,000 gallons of clean water daily in Murree.

The construction and expansion of the old Rawalpindi-Murree-Kashmir Road were approved, and temporary parking spaces will also be created on Old Murree Road.

RCC and tough tiles will be installed on 53 kilometers of streets in various villages in Murree. A project to store rainwater for domestic use was approved, with the government supporting over 1,100 homes in this effort.

The remodeling of Jhika Gali Chowk, removal of encroachments, and construction and restoration of Lawrence College Road, from Boostal Mor to Brewery Road, were also approved.

At Banser Gali Wildlife Park, plans include the creation of tree houses, camping sites, walkways, and terrace parking areas. The entrances to PIA and Bagh-e-Shaheedan Park will undergo renovation, and attractive walkways for tourists will be constructed.

Murree Biodiversity Park will offer natural habitats for plants, birds, and animals, alongside picnic areas and tourist huts. It was also decided to establish an artist’s corner, develop walkways and walking tracks, and promote eco-tourism.

It was reported that the construction and repair of 16 internal roads in Murree have been completed. Briefings were also provided on the upgrading of Samli Hospital, street lights, and public toilets.

The Punjab Chief Minister instructed swift legislation to restore historical names and install memorials in every city that reflect their history and traditions.
