LAHORE: The Punjab government has declared that schools throughout the province will now have two days off each week.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced that the government has declared Saturday as a weekly holiday, adding that schools will now be closed for two days a week.
The Minister said the decision was taken to help teachers in the province. “Teachers are serving our nation, and it’s our duty to look after them,” he added.
Rana Sikandar said that the decision regarding two weekly holidays was made due to the excessive workload on teachers.
He additionally mentioned that school hours from Monday to Friday will be extended so that students’ education is not affected by the decision.
At present, all government schools and most private schools have only one day off each week, typically on Sunday.
