WhatsApp is introducing a new account restriction feature, spotted in the recent Android beta version of the messaging app.
According to a Private Tech Media Report, expected to debut in an upcoming update, this feature will temporarily block users from chatting with others if they violate certain WhatsApp policies.
Users found breaching specific WhatsApp policies will face temporary restrictions, as illustrated in new screenshots. During this period, affected users won’t be able to initiate new chats.
However, to maintain essential communication, restricted users can still receive and reply to messages.
WhatsApp employs automated tools to detect various forms of abuse, such as spam-like behavior and bulk messaging, which violate its terms of service.
Due to the platform’s end-to-end encryption, these tools independently control message actions without relying on behavioral patterns to flag suspicious activities.
This account restriction feature aims to strike a balance between enforcing policy compliance and preserving user access.
Furthermore, WhatsApp will give users the chance to rectify their behavior without losing access to their data entirely by offering short restrictions instead of permanent bans.
