KARACHI: In anticipation of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl’s (JUI-F) public gathering in Karachi today, May 2, 2024, a traffic diversion strategy has been put in place to prevent congestion on routes.
The rally organized by Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s party will take place near Peoples Chowrangi adjacent to Mazar-e-Quaid at 4pm today (Thursday). Parking arrangements for rally attendees have been arranged at Excise Chowrangi, Bagh-e-Jinnah, and Mazar-e-Quaid (VIP) Gate.
To maintain smooth traffic flow around the rally venue, the city’s traffic department has closed Numaish Chowrangi — a main artery leading to MA Jinnah Road — for general traffic, offering alternative routes for public use.
As a result, access from Jamshed Road and Teen Hatti to Numaish will be restricted, with Tariq Road suggested as an alternate route. Traffic from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be redirected at Noorani signal towards Khalid bin Waleed Road.
Traffic from University Road will be diverted from Jail Chowrangi to Shaheed-e-Millat Road, while vehicles bound for Jamshed Road from Jail Chowrangi will be rerouted to Soldier Bazaar and Business Recorder Road.
Furthermore, general traffic won’t be permitted on routes from Regal to New MA Jinnah Corridor 3. Commuters from Saddar Dawakhana can use the Lucky Star route to Sharea Faisal.
Buses, minibuses, and heavy vehicles from Nazimabad and Teen Hatti won’t be allowed on Lasbela to Gurumandir route, with heavy vehicles advised to use Nishter Road.
Traffic from MA Jinnah Road’s Tibet signal will be diverted from Capri to Soldier Bazaar No 1. Liaquatabad No 10 towards Teen Hatti and Gurumandir will be off-limits for large vehicles.
Entry of heavy traffic on Shahrah-e-Quaideen will also be prohibited. Participants of the rally, especially those coming from rural Sindh via Sohrab Goth, Water Pump, and Liaquatabad, can park near Post Office, Gurumandir.
Attendees from District Central via Liaquatabad can park at Bagh-e-Jinnah or Jigar Muradabadi Road. Those from District South and Korangi can use the Khudadad Colony Underpass for parking.
Participants from District West can park at Bagh-e-Jinnah, while those from Thatta, District Malir, and East can park near Dawood Engineering University.
The traffic police and law enforcement agencies have requested cooperation from the public for the smooth conduct of the rally. For assistance, the public can contact Traffic Police Guide at 1915 or WhatsApp at 03059266907, and stay updated via FM Radio 88.6.
