ISLAMABAD: Nawaz Sharif, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN), has arrived in China for a week-long visit, accompanied by his grandson Junaid Safdar and five others.
This visit, labeled as personal by the PMLN leader, marks his first trip abroad since returning from a four-year self-imposed exile in London.
On Monday, the former prime minister boarded Chinese Airline Flight CZ-6038 for his journey. While officially termed as non-official, insider information suggests the potential for productive discussions concerning the establishment of the Nawaz Sharif IT-City in Lahore, an initiative spearheaded by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Interest from various Chinese companies in investing in the Nawaz Sharif IT City, projected to be operational within a year, has been noted. Sources indicate Nawaz Sharif’s intentions to rekindle connections with leaders of the Chinese ruling party and prominent business entities during his stay.
Diplomatic channels suggest that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif are anticipated to undertake an official visit to China in June this year.
