KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Karachi for his inaugural visit to the city since assuming office for the second time.
During his day-long stay, he paid respects at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and is scheduled to meet with Governor Kamran Khan Tessori and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.
According to a statement from the PM Office, the premier will engage with prominent figures from the business community, with a delegation from the Karachi Chamber of Commerce also on his agenda.
The focus of these discussions will be on gathering insights from the business community to enhance the nation’s economy.
Additionally, matters concerning law and order as well as governance will be deliberated upon during his meetings with the governor and chief minister.
With the heightened crime rate being a pressing concern, the issue is expected to be prioritized, especially as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), a coalition partner, has threatened protests and potential withdrawal from the government if the situation does not improve.
Tensions between MQM-P and the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) government in Sindh have intensified over the surge in crime, with blame being placed on the caretaker setup by provincial authorities.
