ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif remarked on Saturday that the burgeoning economic and cultural ties between Pakistan and China owe much to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

In a statement marking the global celebration of the Chinese language as one of the foremost mediums of communication, he noted the increasing number of Pakistanis acquiring proficiency in Chinese, which further solidifies the bond between the two nations.

The United Nations annually observes UN Chinese Language Day on April 20 to recognize the significance of Chinese literature, poetry, and language in global culture.

The prime minister underscored ongoing efforts at both official and public levels to promote Chinese language and literature, aiming to enhance people-to-people connections between Pakistan and China, as stated by the PM Office Media Wing in a press release.

He highlighted today’s significance as a global celebration of the Chinese language, emphasizing its role as a longstanding pillar of Chinese culture.

Over recent decades, China has demonstrated remarkable economic growth, concurrently witnessing the widespread popularity of its language and culture worldwide, he added.

Prime Minister Sharif acknowledged the Chinese language’s status as the world’s primary mode of communication today, noting its inclusion by the UN as an official language of communication.
