LAHORE: The recent political reunion between the top leaders of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) resulted in a seat adjustment agreement between the two parties after former prime minister Nawaz Sharif met Chaudhry Shujaat for the first time in 15 years on Wednesday.

During the pivotal 40-minute meeting between the PML-N and PML-Q leaders, discussions revolved around the potential formation of an electoral alliance, according to sources familiar with the matter.

It was agreed during the meeting to establish separate committees aimed at finalizing details concerning the alliance.

Nawaz, accompanied by PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and other prominent figures like Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah, Ayaz Sadiq, and Azam Nazeer Tarar, visited Shujaat’s residence in Lahore.

Similarly, PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, and Shafay Hussain were present during the discussions.

Sources indicated that both parties have reached an understanding on seat adjustments for two National Assembly and three Punjab Assembly constituencies. Specifically, the agreement entails seat adjustments concerning PML-Q leader Tariq Bashir Cheema, Salik, and Shafay’s provincial assembly constituency.

Moreover, Nawaz took the opportunity during the meeting to inquire about the health of veteran politician Shujaat, who previously held the position of the country’s prime minister.

Despite the substantial discussions, no official statement was released following the meeting.

This development occurs amid heightened political activities characterized by ongoing election campaigns and the formation of electoral alliances as parties endeavor to fortify their positions in the upcoming elections.
