RAWALPINDI: District Coordinator for Epidemics Prevention and Control, Dr. Sajjad Mehmood, disclosed that up to this point since January 1st, there have been 35 FIRs lodged for breaching anti-dengue protocols across various sectors within Rawalpindi district.
Dr. Sajjad shared that in collaborative efforts with other relevant departments, the district administration had taken measures such as sealing 38 premises, issuing 83 tickets, and imposing fines totaling Rs132,000 for violations of dengue protocols in the year 2024.
He also highlighted that there have been four confirmed cases of dengue reported in the district this year, contrasting with two cases in 2023 and one case in 2022.
Furthermore, Dr. Sajjad outlined the results of indoor and outdoor vector surveillance efforts. Indoor surveillance covered 1,045,853 houses, with larvae discovered at 1,564 sites. Meanwhile, outdoor surveillance identified larvae at 300 locations out of 269,547 inspected spots.
Meanwhile, Commissioner Rawalpindi, Engineer Aamir Khattak, urged officials to intensify field operations to detect larvae promptly and to enhance surveillance in areas such as graveyards, junkyards, and construction sites, known to be susceptible to dengue spread.
Additionally, he instructed the health department to ensure hospitals are adequately equipped with necessary treatments and medicines and to install posters and banners in areas affected by dengue outbreaks in previous years.
