Karachi announces Chehlum traffic plan, restrictions for August 26

KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police has announced alternative routes as part of its traffic diversion plan for the Chehlum procession of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in the city on Monday, August 26, 2024.

The main procession will start from Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, following its traditional routes, with MA Jinnah Road being closed to both small and large vehicles from Guru Mandir to Tower as part of strict security measures.

The entry of all vehicles is banned on MA Jinnah Road, except for those with a sticker on the windscreen showing they are part of the procession. Vehicles with these stickers will be allowed to join the procession through Sharea Quaideen’s Society Light Signal.

It is important to note that the Sindh government, in an effort to prevent any untoward incidents, has imposed a ban on pillion riding across the province, including Karachi.

Alternative Routes for Commuters from Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, and Hassan Square:

People coming from Nazimabad can reach their destination via Lasbela Chowk and Nishtar Road through Garden, while those coming from Liaquatabad can turn from Teen Hatti to Lasbela Chowk, then take a left towards Central Jail (Martin Road).

Meanwhile, commuters traveling from Hassan Square to PP Chowrangi can take Kashmir Road to Society Light Signal (Sharea Quaideen) and continue from the Jail Chowrangi Flyover to Teen Hatti, leading to Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).

Routes to Numaish and Guru Mandir:

Citizens heading to Numaish from Sharea Faisal to Sharea Quaideen can reach their destination by taking a right at the Society Light Signal onto Kashmir Road.

Those traveling from the Central Jail gate (Jamshed Road) towards Guru Mandir on MA Jinnah Road can do so via Guru Mandir to Bahadur Yar Jung Road, Soldier Bazaar.

Directions for Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road and Heavy Traffic Diversions:

People traveling from Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road can proceed from Anklesaria to Gul Plaza on the right and pass the coast guards and Holy Family Hospital on the left to reach their destinations.

Additionally, heavy and commercial traffic traveling from the Super Highway, Gulberg to MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No. 10 to Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2 via Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah, and Mauripur.
