KARACHI: Former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader, Miftah Ismail, said recent news about him joining the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is wrong.

Taking to X, previously known as Twitter, Miftah dismissed both newspaper and TV reports insinuating his shift to the PPP ranks. “The circulated news is inaccurate.

There was a newspaper report in Tribune today and a tv report yesterday that I am going to join PPP.

The news is not true.

I have for now stepped back from politics and am not joining any political party.

— Miftah Ismail (@MiftahIsmail) December 4, 2023

Miftah mentioned he’s not involved in active politics now and doesn’t plan to join any political group.

Before this, a big newspaper said Miftah might join PPP soon. They said he was in talks with the Bilawal Bhutto-led party.

Miftah Ismail left his role in PML-N’s Sindh division in June this year. This happened after he was removed, and someone else became the finance minister in September 2022. He wasn’t happy with how things were going in politics since he left. He criticized his replacement for not fixing the country’s economic problems.

But his criticism didn’t go well with PML-N leaders. The party president, Shehbaz Sharif, didn’t like it and said there’s no space to oppose the finance minister.

In his resignation letter, Miftah said it’s time for him to move on and leave PML-N roles in Sindh. He thanked the party leaders for trusting him with responsibilities.

After leaving the government, Miftah, along with Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, started a series of discussions called “Reimagining Pakistan.” These talks were about many issues and talked about how the country’s concerns weren’t being handled well. They held these talks in different cities.
