RAWALPINDI: Three military personnel, including an officer, were reported as martyred in distinct assaults in North Waziristan and Khyber districts, as per information released by the military’s media wing.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on Friday, two security personnel, among them a major, succumbed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Miramshah area of North Waziristan. The operation had been launched based on intelligence indicating the presence of militants in the region.
As the personnel approached the target location, they encountered a group of terrorists, resulting in a firefight that tragically claimed the life of Major Amir Aziz, who was leading the operation, along with a sepoy, as confirmed by the ISPR. Major Aziz, aged 29 and hailing from Sargodha, and sepoy Mohammad Arif, aged 27 from Sahiwal district, were the fallen heroes.
During the operation, one terrorist was killed, while another sustained injuries. The ISPR noted that a thorough sanitization operation was underway in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorists.
In Khyber, another security official was martyred, and a militant was killed during an exchange of gunfire in Tirah valley, as detailed by the ISPR. This confrontation unfolded during the night between Thursday and Friday when security forces effectively engaged militants at their hideout, resulting in the elimination of one of them.
The statement highlighted that the deceased individual had been actively involved in militant activities against security forces and had been responsible for the harm inflicted upon innocent civilians.
The martyred soldier was identified as 36-year-old Havildar Muntazir Shah, a resident of Swabi district.
