Rana Sanaullah and Raja Riaz Suggest Election Timing Around February 15

ISLAMABAD: The upcoming elections, projected for February next year, have been discussed by former Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and opposition leader Raja Riaz, shedding light on the plausible timing for the general polls in the nation.

Rana Sanaullah, a representative of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), further revealed that the party’s leader, Nawaz Sharif, is anticipated to return to Pakistan, leading the electoral campaign in the lead-up to the elections.

Speaking on a Private TV channel, Rana elaborated that he was confident about the establishment’s inclination towards holding elections within 90 days. However, he explained that the polls are likely to occur in February due to the ongoing process of constituency delimitation.

This delimitation procedure is expected to reach its conclusion by December. Preceding the elections, Nawaz Sharif’s return to the country is anticipated in October to spearhead the electoral campaign.

Rana Sanaullah expressed unwavering certainty regarding the exoneration of his party’s leader from fabricated charges, similar to PML-N Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz and her husband, Captain (retd) Safdar.

In a parallel vein, Raja Riaz concurred with the election timeline, asserting that the polls could take place one week prior to or after February 15.

During an interview with a news channel, Raja Riaz articulated the possibility of a minor delay in the elections to navigate the nation through its present economic predicament. He underscored the current urgency to prioritize the nation’s welfare over political considerations.

Riaz added that the decision to hold the election in February 2024 has been informed by respected “elders.”

Before Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar assumed office on August 14, former Prime Minister and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif expressed optimism in the caretaker premier’s commitment to ensuring the conduction of a fair, transparent, and unbiased election process.
