ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, founder chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has ousted senior party figure Sher Afzal Marwat from both the PTI’s core committee and political committee. He has instructed to issue a show-cause notice to Marwat for detrimental actions against the party.
The announcement was made by PTI Secretary-General Omar Ayub during a press briefing in Rawalpindi, following a meeting with Imran Khan in Adiala jail. Ayub was accompanied by senior party members including Dr. Arif Alvi and Raoof Hasan.
Ayub stated that Imran Khan had taken severe notice of Marwat’s remarks, citing repeated violations of party discipline and dissemination of misleading statements. These actions were deemed harmful to both Imran Khan’s interests and the party’s reputation, particularly in relation to PTI’s ties with the Saudi government and Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
Imran Khan recalled the pivotal role played by Saudi Arabia in hosting two OIC conferences during his tenure, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong relations with the Kingdom.
Furthermore, Imran Khan directed the party’s political committee to determine appropriate disciplinary measures against Marwat, acknowledging his previous contributions to the party.
In addition, Imran Khan entrusted President Dr. Arif Alvi with a significant responsibility and proposed the inclusion of former Prime Minister AJK Abdul Qayyum Niazi in the political committee.
Ayub also referenced Imran Khan’s characterization of May 9 as part of a coordinated effort akin to the historic events of March 11, 1971, drawing parallels to the separation of East Pakistan.
Regarding legal actions, PTI plans to file petitions in the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking CCTV footage related to alleged attacks on military installations on May 9, as well as clarification from former caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar regarding statements made about Form 47.
Furthermore, PTI aims to pursue legal recourse for the investigation into the shooting of 16 PTI workers, as well as seeking CCTV footage related to an assassination attempt on Imran Khan.
The party also intends to petition for the recovery and appearance of a former commissioner of Rawalpindi, who allegedly exposed electoral fraud resulting in the imposition of certain political leaders.
Prior to these announcements, Ayub condemned what he described as oppressive actions by the Punjab government against PTI and lawyers, while also accusing political rivals such as Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif of illegal actions regarding vehicle acquisitions from Toshakhana.
