ISLAMABAD:  The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is actively considering the dualisation of Pir Sohawa Road, a vital connection between the captivating Margalla Hills National Park and the federal capital, with the aim of mitigating the growing vehicular traffic. In addition, the CDA is exploring the potential for an alternative route to the Bari Imam area to effectively manage the increasing congestion.

CDA Chairman Expresses Concerns over Traffic Congestion and Environmental Risks

In a recent gathering of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, led by MNA Nuzhat Pathan, Captain (r) Noorul Amin Mengal, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), raised apprehensions regarding the mounting traffic congestion on Pir Sohawa Road. With utmost concern, he characterized the present scenario as a considerable nuisance for the Capital Territory Administration, underscoring the substantial risks imposed on the environment and wildlife as a result of the road’s deteriorating condition and the accompanying surge in vehicular emissions.

CDA’s Plans for Reception Center and Alternate Route

To address the challenges posed by traffic congestion, the CDA is actively working on the PC-1 proposal for the establishment of a reception and information center within the Margalla Hills National Park along Pir Sohawa Road. Furthermore, the authority intends to introduce an alternate route from Monal to Bari Imam, which aims to reduce traffic and minimize vehicular emissions. Comprehensive surveys are currently being conducted to assess the feasibility of dualising the existing route and identifying a suitable alternate path.

CDA’s Ongoing Efforts to Preserve Margalla Hills National Park

Chairman Mengal highlighted the CDA’s continuous efforts to preserve and enhance the Margalla Hills National Park. In a historic move, the civic agency has initiated the fencing of the national park, showcasing its commitment to safeguarding this natural treasure. Moreover, the CDA has made significant progress in addressing environmental concerns, particularly regarding plastic pollution. The installation of reusable plastic benches, gazebos, and dustbins across the federal capital has played a vital role in mitigating the adverse effects of plastic waste.

Sustainable Practices and Future Projects

The CDA remains dedicated to implementing sustainable practices in various domains. For instance, the sprawling F-9 public park, covering over 750 acres of land, will introduce rainwater harvesting recharge wells to efficiently manage water resources for plantation purposes. Furthermore, the CDA has allocated substantial funds totaling Rs20 billion for rural road construction, further enhancing connectivity in these areas. To combat local nullahs pollution, the CDA has engaged a consultant to develop effective solutions.

CDA’s Vision: Alleviating Traffic Congestion and Promoting Sustainability

Through these initiatives, the CDA aims to alleviate traffic congestion, protect the environment, and promote sustainable practices. These efforts ultimately contribute to the overall well-being of the city and its residents, ensuring a greener and more sustainable future for Islamabad.
