PM inaugurates $3.48bn Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5

MIANWALI: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif laid the foundation stone for the construction of Chashma 5, a nuclear power plant with a capacity of 1200 MW in Mianwali.

The project holds significant importance as it signifies the strong cooperation between Pakistan and China, aiming to promote clean and affordable energy. The Prime Minister emphasized that this partnership sets an example for other nations to follow.

Addressing Economic Stability and Acknowledging Support

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif addressed rumors of Pakistan’s economic instability and assured the public that the government, with the support of institutions and divine grace, has successfully overcome challenges. He expressed gratitude for the financial support received from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and China, acknowledging China’s substantial contributions during Pakistan’s most challenging times.

Appreciation for China’s Cooperation and Transparent Communication

The Prime Minister extended his appreciation to China for their long-standing cooperation and understanding of Pakistan’s financial constraints. He specifically thanked China for providing a discount on prices and not adjusting them based on inflation. While some colleagues advised against seeking further concessions from China, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of transparent and sincere communication, which has strengthened the bond between the two countries.

Focus on Timely Completion and Energy Needs

Shahbaz Sharif expressed hope that the companies involved in the project would work collaboratively to complete Chashma 5 before the projected timeline of seven to eight years. He emphasized the project’s significance in meeting Pakistan’s energy needs, particularly in the industrial and agricultural sectors. The Prime Minister’s Office highlighted that Chashma-5, signed in 2017, has undergone cost reductions and an increase in capacity under Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s special efforts.

Inauguration of National University of Technology Main Campus

In a separate event, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the main campus of the National University of Technology. He emphasized the importance of skill education in modern times, praising the university’s administration for their commitment to rapid development and providing quality education leading to employment opportunities. The Prime Minister highlighted the success of merit scholarships benefiting 50,000 students nationwide and stressed the need for skill education as a priority, citing the progress of countries like Indonesia due to their skilled workforce. He proposed sending skilled individuals abroad, particularly to the Gulf region, to help improve Pakistan’s trade deficit.

Youth’s Role in Combating Corruption and Inspiration from Other Nations

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif commended the university management and teachers for their hard work, emphasizing the crucial role of the younger generation in eradicating corruption. He drew inspiration from nations like Japan and Germany known for their hard work and dedication. The ceremony witnessed the presence of various government officials and students from the National University of Technology.
