PAK VS NZ 2023: Pakistan Registers 500th ODI Win by Beating New Zealand

RAWALPINDI: On Thursday, Babar Azam-led Pakistan secured a five-wicket victory against New Zealand in Rawalpindi, marking their 500th one-day international (ODI) victory. This makes Pakistan the third team in the world to achieve this feat, having played 949 50-over matches.

Pakistan’s victories against various teams:

Pakistan’s 500 ODI victories include 92 against Sri Lanka, 73 against India, 63 against West Indies, 57 against New Zealand, 54 against Zimbabwe, 34 against Australia, and 32 each against England and Bangladesh.

Apart from Pakistan, Australia has won 594 50-over matches in 978 fixtures, while India has secured victories in 539 matches in 1,029 fixtures.

Babar Azam sets another international record:

During the match against New Zealand, Babar Azam not only led his team to victory but also achieved another international feat. He completed his 12,000 runs in international cricket, taking 277 innings to achieve this feat, becoming the fastest Pakistani and second-fastest Asian batter to do so. Babar is now the world’s sixth-fastest batter to score 12,000 runs in international cricket. The fastest to achieve this milestone is Sir Vivian Richards, who achieved it in 255 innings.

Babar Azam’s other achievements in international cricket:

Previously, Babar Azam was the fastest Asian to score 10,000 and then 11,000 runs in international cricket. He is now the eighth Pakistani batter to score 12,000 runs in international cricket. The other Pakistani batters who have crossed the 12,000-run mark are Inzamam-ul-Haq (20541), Younis Khan (11790), Mohammad Yousaf (17134), Javed Miandad (16213), Saleem Malik (12,938), Saeed Anwar (12876), and Mohammad Hafeez (12780).

Naseem Shah sets a new world record:

Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah made headlines by breaking the world record for the most wickets after the first six ODI matches of his career. After claiming two wickets in the first ODI against New Zealand, Naseem has now clinched 20 wickets in six ODIs. The previous record was held by New Zealand’s Matt Henry, who claimed 19 wickets in six matches.

In the match against New Zealand, Naseem Shah registered impressive figures of 2-29 in 10 overs, as New Zealand set Pakistan a target of 289 runs.
