ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has invalidated the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) order to recount votes in six union councils (UCs) in Karachi.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan made the decision after Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) requested the recount be stopped.
The court stayed the implementation of the ECP’s orders regarding the recount until the next hearing after JI Karachi’s Naib Ameer, Raja Arif Sultan, challenged the decision.
The court extended the suspension of the recount until April 19 and stated that if there was evidence of rigging, the ECP should have conducted re-polling on the six union councils.
The court said it was the ECP’s responsibility to ensure fair and transparent elections.
