RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir met with his Chinese counterpart at the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) headquarters in Beijing on his first day of a four-day official visit.
Upon arrival, Gen Munir was warmly welcomed and received a guard of honour at the Chinese army’s headquarters, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday.
The statement further added that the COAS reviewed a smartly turned-out contingent before holding a detailed meeting with the commander of PLA Army. Both military commanders reiterated the need for maintaining peace and stability in the region and enhancing military-to-military cooperation. Matters of mutual security interests and military cooperation were also discussed during the meeting.
During his visit, Gen Munir also witnessed a demonstration of the operational capabilities of the PLA Army troops and praised their high standards of training and professionalism.
The ISPR said that the army chief will hold further meetings with military leaders in China to enhance the long-standing relations between the two militaries.
