Heatwave alert: PMD warns of high temperatures across Sindh

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced a heatwave in many parts of Sindh. They say daytime temperatures might be 5 to 7°C higher than usual in several districts.

A private TV channel reported, that this is the first official heatwave warning this season. Hot and dry weather is expected to continue in upper and central Sindh.

Districts like Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, Sukkur, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Matiari, and Sanghar may see higher temperatures. This could cause health problems, especially for people working outside, children, and older adults.

In Karachi, Monday will be hot and dry, followed by hot and humid weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures might reach 38°C, with humidity up to 80-90%, making it feel even warmer.

Southern Sindh districts, including Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, and Tharparkar, may also have some windy moments.

The weather office suggests staying out of the sun, drinking water, and taking care during the hottest hours from 11 am to 4 pm.

What is Heatwave?

A heatwave is a period of very hot weather that lasts longer than usual. It happens when temperatures are much higher than normal for a few days or more, often making it uncomfortable or unsafe to be outside.

Heatwaves can cause problems like dehydration or sickness, especially for people who aren’t used to the heat or don’t take care.
