LAHORE: The Punjab government has extended winter vacations for all government and private schools in the province by one week, from January 1 to January 9, in response to the unusually cold weather affecting Punjab in recent weeks.
The announcement of the extension of the winter vacations was made by Punjab Education Minister Mansoor Qadir. He stated that the decision aimed to shield children from the harsh cold weather.
According to the Punjab Meteorological Department, the cold weather in January is forecasted to be even more severe than in December. The department has warned about the possibility of a rise in cases of hypothermia and other winter-related illnesses.
Additionally, the Punjab government has been taking measures to alleviate the effects of the cold weather. Artificial rain operations have been carried out in an attempt to break the grip of the dry cold. However, these efforts have seen limited success.
The extension of the winter vacations is a welcomed step that will aid in protecting children from the harsh weather conditions. This decision also acknowledges the severity of the cold weather currently affecting Punjab.
