Lahore high court justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz resigns

LAHORE: Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has resigned for personal reasons.

According to a private TV channel report, Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz wrote in his resignation that he cannot continue work due to personal reasons.

In his resignation sent to the President of Pakistan, he mentioned that he took up his duties as a Lahore High Court judge in 2016.

He stated that during his time as a judge, he decided around 40,000 cases. Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz said he is resigning from his position under Article 206 of the Constitution of Pakistan because he cannot perform his duties anymore due to personal reasons.

According to the Lahore High Court website, Justice Chaudhry Abdul Aziz was born on September 9, 1971. He joined the Lahore High Court as an additional judge on November 26, 2016, and was due to retire on September 8, 2033. However, he has resigned from his post early.

Last year, Justice Shahid Jamil Khan of the Lahore High Court also resigned from his position. Justice Shahid Jamil Khan was set to retire in 2029 and was 11th on the seniority list.

In his resignation, he said he served as a Lahore High Court judge for 10 years and has now decided to resign immediately under Article 206(1) of the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan.

Justice Shahid Jamil wrote that being a Lahore High Court judge was an honor, but he decided to start a new chapter due to personal reasons.

Earlier, in January 2024, Supreme Court senior judges Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan and Justice Mazahar Akbar Naqvi also resigned from their posts.
