LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated Electric Vehicle (EV) bus service in Lahore. The fully electric bus will have 30 seats and a capacity of 80 passengers.

At the opening, Maryam Nawaz took a ride on the electric bus and inspected it. Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar gave a detailed briefing about the bus.

Modern Features for Passenger Comfort and Safety;

The bus features a GPS location recorder, Wi-Fi, UPS port, and other facilities. Special seats and ramps are provided for people with disabilities.

For passenger safety, anti-slip sheets have been added to the floor. Nine charging stations have been set up for the electric bus, which can cover a distance of 250 kilometers.

The bus will also have a route display for passengers and a separate section for women. Cameras will be installed to prevent harassment.

EV Bus Service Operational Capacity and Route Details;

A total of 27 electric buses will run on the longest 21-kilometer route in Lahore. The service will start from Railway Station to Green Town, passing through Queen’s Road, Mazang, Ferozepur Road, Campus Bridge, and Achhra Canal.

Around 17,000 passengers will use the electric bus service daily. The service will officially begin in mid-February, and 42 modern bus shelters will be set up along the route. Buses will arrive every 9 minutes.

An app will be introduced to track the buses, and passengers will be able to pay fares through digital wallets and cards. Universal transport cards will also be issued. Training for 70 drivers for the electric buses has started.

Maryam Nawaz instructed the installation of solar fans and water coolers at bus stands and ordered the installation of Safe City cameras at all bus stands.

A meeting chaired by Maryam Nawaz also reviewed the e-taxi project. She directed that e-taxis be assembled in Punjab and that electric charging stations be set up in partnership with the private sector.
