PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government (KPK) has rejected the objections raised by Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to the Universities Amendment Act and made Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur the Chancellor of the universities.
As per the report, Recently, the KPK Assembly passed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Amendment Bill 2024 and sent it to the Governor for approval, but the Governor objected and returned the bill.
Today, the Assembly Secretariat issued a notification to make the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Amendment Bill 2024 a regular law, under which the Chancellor of universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will now be the Chief Minister.

Before today, the Governor was the Chancellor of all universities. After the Act, these powers were transferred to the Chief Minister.
Under the law, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur will now have the authority to appoint any one of the three names recommended by the Academic Search Committee as the Vice Chancellor.
According to the law, the term of appointment of the Vice Chancellor has been fixed at four years; however, if the performance is unsatisfactory, this period can be terminated at any time.
