KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated a new highway rescue station in Gulshan-i-Maymar , enhancing the highway operations of Rescue 1122.

The newly operational stations feature advanced ambulances, fire tenders, disaster management equipment, and recovery vehicles. “This marks a significant improvement in Sindh’s emergency infrastructure, addressing a critical gap in government services,” stated a press release from the CM House.

“Rescue 1122, launched in 2022, is revolutionizing emergency response in Sindh,” the Chief Minister said, adding that this expansion demonstrates his government’s dedication to creating a safer and more resilient province.

Positioned on key highways, these stations not only cater to travelers but also offer essential backup support to adjacent districts, he noted.

The Chief Minister further announced plans to extend Rescue 1122 services to the district and tehsil levels, ensuring province-wide access to emergency assistance.

As per report, Modeled on international standards and operated by professionals trained at recognized rescue academies, the service is available free of charge through the unified helpline 1122.

It encompasses medical emergencies, firefighting, water rescues, urban search and rescue, and lifesaving training programs.

Expressing gratitude to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and the World Bank, the CM lauded the dedication of Rescue 1122 personnel. He described the initiative as a transformative step toward a safer Sindh, underscoring the government’s commitment to public safety and infrastructure development.

Rehabilitation Minister Makhdoom Mahboob Zaman said that Rescue 1122 has dealt with over 700,000 medical emergencies, 1,000 fire cases, 60 building crashes, and 180 drowning incidents since it started. He said the service has saved many lives and will work even better with the new highway operations.

Planning and Development Minister Nasir Shah announced additional initiatives, including modernizing 10 government hospital emergency wards, rehabilitating 836 kilometers of roads, and restoring 375 water supply schemes in flood-affected areas.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab remarked that despite launching major development projects, especially in Karachi, critics of the provincial government remain skeptical.

He urged the Chief Minister to announce a comprehensive drainage system for the area. In response, CM Shah affirmed his readiness to support such a scheme, provided it adequately meets the community’s needs.

Talking to the media about the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), the Chief Minister said that work is being done to improve the performance of education boards by bringing in new exam methods and hiring well-trained staff.

Addressing another query, CM Shah clarified that only barren land would be utilized for the corporate farming initiative. “We are also implementing a scheme to bring uncultivated or barren land into productive use,” he added.
