KP govt to launch “life insurance” scheme for citizens starting January 2025

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) government has decided to start a life insurance scheme from January 1 next year.

A meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur decided to pay compensation for the death of the head of the family at a government hospital or a hospital on the health card panel.

It was decided in the meeting that Rs 500,000 would be paid in case of death at the age of 60 years. The life insurance of citizens will cost Rs 4.5 billion annually.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister was briefed on the project of laying a power line from Bahrain to Chakdara in Swat. He was informed that the project would be completed in 18 months at a cost of Rs 8 billion.

It was also informed in the meeting that power from the 84 MW Mitaltan Hydropower Project would be withdrawn through a transmission line. The Chief Minister also directed officials to start the land purchase process for the Peshawar-DI Khan Motorway.

It may be recalled that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to include life insurance in this scheme by expanding the scope of health cards.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sardar Ali Amin Gandapur held a meeting with a delegation of the Insaf Doctors Forum, during which they discussed reforms in the health sector, improvement of healthcare service delivery in hospitals, and problems faced by doctors.

The Chief Minister said that the health sector is one of the few priority areas of the present provincial government, which is working on strengthening health centers at the grassroots level to provide treatment facilities to people at the local level.
