Islamabad : The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has established a seven-member constitutional bench under the leadership of Justice Aminuddin Khan.

A narrow 7-5 vote led to this decision, marking the first major action of the JCP following the appointment of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, a private TV channel reported.

The newly formed bench includes:

  • Justice Aminuddin Khan
  • Justice Jamal Mandokhail
  • Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar
  • Justice Ayesha Malik
  • Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi
  • Justice Musarrat Hilali
  • Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan

The meeting, held on November 5, 2024, was the first since the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which restructured the JCP. Chief Justice Afridi presided over the session, focusing on key agenda items, including establishing a JCP secretariat and discussing constitutional bench nominations.

Despite opposition from Chief Justice Afridi, Justices Mansoor Ali Shah, and Munib Akhtar, as well as parliamentary representatives Omar Ayub and Shibli Faraz of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the formation of the bench led by Justice Aminuddin Khan was approved by a majority.
