ISLAMABAD: The birthday of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, November 9, will be observed as Iqbal Day in the country, a day dedicated to honoring the contributions of the great poet and philosopher.

As Iqbal Day approaches, there are growing questions among the public regarding whether the day will be declared a public holiday, especially since November 9, 2024, falls on a Saturday.

This holiday has had a tumultuous history in recent years. After being suspended in 2015, it was reinstated in 2022. Last year, the Cabinet Division announced that Iqbal Day would be observed as a public holiday, which has led to hopes that the same decision will be made this year.

Iqbal Day (November 9) is marked in the official holiday calendar for 2024, issued in January this year, signaling that the usual commemorative events will take place.

The 2024 holiday list, issued earlier this year by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, does include Iqbal Day on November 9, raising expectations that the day will be celebrated with the customary events and ceremonies honoring Allama Iqbal’s legacy.

Iqbal Day, celebrated on November 9 every year, is included in the 2024 official holiday calendar issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It should be noted that no official holiday notification has been issued by the Government of Pakistan for Iqbal Day 2024. The government has not yet announced a holiday for November 9.
