The new DG ISI is also the son of former commander of Pakistan Army’s 10 Corps, Lt. Gen. Ghulam Muhammad Malik, who, since his retirement in 1995, has been building hospitals and medical facilities for the poor in various parts of Pakistan.

Besides that, Gen Malik has also served as the chief instructor at the National Defence University in Islamabad and as an instructor at the Command and Staff College Quetta.

The military officer is a graduate of Fort Leavenworth in the United States and the Royal College of Defence Studies in London, the statement added.

Since 1971, ISI has been officially headed by a serving three-star general of the Pakistan Army, appointed by the Prime Minister on the recommendation of the Army Chief, who recommends three officers for the post. The Director General of ISI reports directly to the Prime Minister and the Chief of Army Staff.
