ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory administration has banned the sale, purchase, and use of toy horns that honk in preparation for Independence Day celebrations in the federal capital.
A notification issued by Islamabad Additional District Magistrate Usman Ashraf stated that the ban is effective immediately and will remain in place for ten days.
The notification further stated that the ban has been imposed under Section 144, as local traders set up roadside stalls to sell celebratory items, including flags, badges, and other goods, ahead of Independence Day.
“[…] Additional District Magistrate, Islamabad, […] hereby prohibits the stock, sale, purchase, and use of horns/whistles in Islamabad, as they are likely to disturb public peace and tranquility and cause public nuisance within the revenue limits of Islamabad District,” the notification stated.
The notification stated that it has come to the administration’s attention that the noise from toy horns being sold in the federal capital is causing disruptions in the flow of vehicular traffic.
Meanwhile, Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz urged citizens to avoid using horns and requested stall owners to stop selling them.
He also instructed all assistant commissioners to confiscate any honking toys being sold at stalls.
“Using or selling a toy horn can lead to legal trouble,” the official warned, urging citizens to comply with the directives.
Last year, a judicial magistrate’s court in Karachi had ordered action against sellers of toy horns and those using them as the nation approached Independence Day.
