ISLAMABAD: Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Mohammad Ali Randhawa, took notice of the media reports regarding the increase in fish deaths in Rawal Dam.
According to the statement issued by CDA, Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman CDA formed a team headed by Member Environment Talat Gondal for investigation.
As per report, a special team has been instructed to visit Rawal Dam and investigate the matter. The team visited Rawal Dam along with officers from the Environment Protection Department.
The team also took samples to determine the actual cause of the fish deaths, which have been sent to the Environment Protection Department, Fisheries Department Punjab, and Fisheries Research Institute of NARC Islamabad.
These three departments will submit their report in two days. In the observation, it has been noted that the fish deaths occurred in the last week of July, but the dead fish have been removed from the dam, and the situation is gradually improving.
Moreover, CDA has also initiated the EOI process for the installation of a Sewage Treatment Plant to solve this problem on a permanent basis and prevent water pollution, which is a permanent solution to this issue.
Incidents of fish deaths are being closely monitored by watch and ward staff posted at the dam, and regular reporting is also being conducted.
