ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad district administration has instructed housing societies to provide information on stamp duty and other government taxes, including advance tax, capital gains tax, and taxes under section 7E, within a week.
According to a report from Private Media, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has penned a letter to all housing societies regarding the failure to recover taxes.
A recent review of transactions and interactions has revealed that housing societies have neglected to levy or submit the necessary stamp duty and government taxes related to property transactions.
In accordance with relevant laws and regulations, stamp duty must be paid upon the execution of sale deeds, lease agreements, and other documents related to property.
This duty is really important because it makes sure that the documents are legal and can be used in court.
Moreover, various other taxes, such as property tax and maintenance-related charges, must be accurately imposed and forwarded to the government authorities.
These duties are not just choices, they are rules made by the government, and not following them can lead to big trouble for both the housing societies and the people in them. Remember, the government is charging a 4 percent tax, whether you’re someone who regularly files taxes or not.
Likewise, the registration fee stands at 1 percent for both filers and non-filers, while the advance tax is 3 percent for filers and 10 percent for non-filers. Moreover, the government has imposed a 3 percent capital gains tax for filers and 6 percent for non-filers, along with a 1 percent tax for 7 E tax.
“You are thus instructed to furnish a comprehensive report of property transactions/transfers carried out since the establishment/regularization of societies,” stated the DC Islamabad.
He said the report should have all transactions and the bank papers showing that taxes were paid to the government.
The detailed report must be submitted to the DC office within a week without fail to prevent any potential adverse legal repercussions in accordance with the law.
