PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Education Department has declared summer vacations for 2024 in schools throughout the province.
“Primary schools in the province will shut down starting from June 1st, whereas middle, high, and higher secondary schools will remain closed from June 15th until August 31st, 2024,” as per official notification.
In the higher districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, schools will shut down from July 1st until August 31st.
Previously, the Sindh Education Department also declared summer vacations for all private and public sector schools and colleges.
As per the issued notification, all public and private institutions in Sindh will observe summer vacations from June 1st to July 31st.
Before this, the Punjab government declared early summer vacations for all public and private schools due to the ongoing heatwave.
Per a notification, both government and private schools in Punjab will shut down from May 25th until August 15th.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Climate Change Ministry stated that about 26 districts across Pakistan were boiling under a severe heatwave as of Thursday, with the current spell of sizzling temperature likely to last until May 30.
On Friday, temperatures are forecasted to reach 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) in at least two cities in the southern province of Sindh, leading to the postponement of the week-long annual school exams due to the intense heat.
