Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was wounded in a shooting outside a cultural community center in Handlova following a government meeting, according to media reports.
Witnesses say they heard multiple shots during the attack. Prime Minister Robert Fico has been taken to the hospital after being hit by four shots, one of which struck him in the abdomen. His current medical status remains undisclosed. Meanwhile, the suspected attacker has been apprehended by local authorities.
The incident occurred approximately 150 km northeast of the capital, Bratislava. Slovakian President Zuzana Caputova and other leaders have strongly condemned the attack, expressing shock and extending well wishes for Fico’s swift recovery.
Fico, recognized for advocating pro-European policies, has recently taken on more polarizing stances, including anti-Western and pro-Russian positions.
