LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved the use of bulletproof vehicles to enhance the security of Chinese engineers.
A total of 37 bulletproof vehicles have been allocated to safeguard Chinese engineers engaged in various projects across the province, including those related to CPEC, as well as non-CPEC government and permanent installations. Currently, 18 bulletproof vehicles are already in use for the protection of Chinese citizens.
In another development, more than 35,000 officers and officials will be deployed to ensure security during the by-elections across 14 national and provincial constituencies.
Among the 2,599 polling stations, 419 have been classified as highly sensitive and 1,081 as sensitive.
Punjab’s Inspector General, Dr. Usman Anwar, emphasized the commitment of Punjab Police to conduct the by-elections peacefully.
Security arrangements have been finalized in the respective districts to provide a safe and secure environment for the approximately 4,044,000 voters. Rigorous security measures will be implemented at 663 male, 649 female, and 1,289 joint polling stations, including the installation of CCTV cameras at the most sensitive locations.
Dr. Usman assured that Punjab Police, in collaboration with relevant institutions, has devised a comprehensive plan encompassing election security, logistics, communication, and transportation.
He affirmed a proactive stance against any attempts by terrorists or anti-national elements to disrupt peace during the by-elections. Various units of Punjab Police, including Constabulary, PHP, Elite, SPU, and Training Branch, will be deployed for election security duties.
Women police officers will be stationed at female polling stations and booths, with additional support from the Rangers and the Pakistan Army.
Dr. Usman emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards violations of the Election Commission’s Code of Conduct, Section 144, and Arms Prohibition. All available resources, including the Dolphin Squad and Special Branch, will be utilized to maintain peace and order during the by-elections.
