ISLAMABAD: The celebration of Eid ul Fitr 2024 is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday), April 10, 2024, in Pakistan, following the sighting of the Shawwal moon in the country, signifying the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the chairman of the prominent moon sighting body, announced the decision after a meeting held in Islamabad. During a press conference in the capital city on Tuesday, the committee’s chief indicated that the determination was made based on reports from various regions across the nation.

Meanwhile, Muslims in India and Bangladesh will observe Eid ul Fitr on Thursday (April 11) since the Shawwal moon has not been sighted in these countries. Imams from Delhi’s Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri mosque conveyed that Eid would be observed on Thursday in India due to the absence of moon sightings, as reported by Indian media. Similarly, the National Moon Sighting Committee of Bangladesh declared that Eid would be celebrated on Thursday in their country.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) mentioned that the new moon was sighted last night at 11:21 pm, and it would be between 19 and 20 hours old by evening. The PMD also forecasted clear skies in the southern regions and possibly cloudy conditions in the north, enhancing the likelihood of spotting the Shawwal crescent today.

On another note, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed in Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United Kingdom (UK), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday, as the Shawwal moon was not sighted in these nations. Consequently, the holy month will complete its 30-day cycle there, with Tuesday marking the end of Ramadan, the holiest month in the Muslim calendar.
