ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, declared on Saturday that the government had resolved to take disciplinary measures against senior officials responsible for the security of Chinese workers following a fatal militant attack last month in the northwest region.
Tarar asserted during a press conference at the PML-N’s Secretariat that the government remains resolute in maintaining peace within the country. He emphasized the commitment of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism effectively.
He mentioned that an inquiry committee had submitted its findings, prompting the Prime Minister to order disciplinary action against negligent officers who should have exercised greater vigilance in their duties. The list of officials facing disciplinary action includes the regional police officer of Hazara division, district police officers in upper and lower Kohistan district, the director of security at Dasu hydropower project, and the commandant of the special security unit in KP.
Tarar assured that action against these officials would be taken within the next 15 days as a signal of the government’s seriousness in handling matters concerning Chinese security.
He highlighted the personal interest of the Prime Minister in ensuring the security of Chinese workers and mentioned ongoing efforts to devise a comprehensive mechanism to safeguard them from future attacks.
Tarar expressed regret over the persistence of anti-state elements hindering the country’s progress and reiterated the government’s determination to combat terrorism.
Furthermore, Tarar emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthen the national economy, citing positive indicators such as the stability of the rupee and encouraging developments in the stock exchange.
Regarding international affairs, Tarar mentioned the Foreign Office’s rejection and condemnation of statements made by the Indian defense minister, urging the international community to take notice of extrajudicial killings.
He reiterated Pakistan’s desire for regional peace while also addressing domestic concerns, including discussions with journalist organizations to address issues within the media industry. Tarar assured that pending dues of media workers and reporters would be cleared before Eid-ul-Fitr, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
