ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday temporarily halted the sentence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, in the Toshakhana case.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq mentioned that the appeal against the verdict would be scheduled for a hearing following the Eid holidays.
In January, Accountability court’s Judge Muhammad Bashir had imposed a 14-year prison sentence with rigorous penalties on Khan and Bushra in the Toshakhana case. Additionally, the judge disqualified the former prime minister for 10 years and levied a fine of Rs1.57 billion — Rs787 million each — on the couple.
Khan asserted before the court that his wife had no involvement in the case and was unjustly implicated.
During the hearing, IHC CJ Farooq stated that the cipher case would conclude shortly, and the court could not schedule the Toshakhana case for an immediate hearing after today’s proceedings.
He mentioned that the cipher case was slated for the following day.
The court elaborated that the arguments by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) needed to commence in the cipher case, and the duration required for this was uncertain. Consequently, the Toshakhana case was postponed until after Eid.
