ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the steering committee for Daanish University of Applied and Emerging Sciences took place on Tuesday, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During the meeting, important decisions were made about setting up the university.
The Prime Minister thanked the Chief Justice of Pakistan for transferring 190 million pounds to the federal government’s account through the Supreme Court.
This money was returned to Pakistan by the United Kingdom’s National Crime Agency. The Prime Minister said that these 190 million pounds have been set aside for the construction and development of Daanish University.
The Prime Minister said that Daanish University will be a quality institution where deserving and capable students will get opportunities for modern research and higher education. He directed that the university should be made a technical and applied university of international standards. He added that its curriculum will meet modern and global needs.
Instructions were given in the meeting to complete the university’s charter and other legal matters as soon as possible. The Prime Minister said the university building will be made with red bricks in a simple design to keep costs low. He stressed the need to hire well-educated teachers and faculty. He also said the university will have all the necessary equipment for modern technology and research.

The Prime Minister directed the formation of a search committee to appoint the university’s Vice Chancellor. He also asked for the nomination of members for the Board of Trustees.
He said the university’s affairs will be managed under the Daanish Trust so that it can be independent in its financial matters with minimal government involvement.
It was shared in the meeting that Daanish University will be registered as a Section 42 company. All legal requirements for this will be completed in a few days. Land for the university has been allocated in Sector H-16 of Islamabad.
The Prime Minister also instructed that foundation stones for Daanish Schools be laid soon in underprivileged areas like Gilgit, Shigar, Bagh, Neelum Valley, and Karachi. The purpose of these schools is to bring quality education to remote parts of the country.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and other senior government officials.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Daanish University will create a new chapter in Pakistan’s education sector. He added that it will equip the country’s youth with modern knowledge and help them move toward progress. He called this project an important step for national development.
