DI KHAN: A statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday reported that terrorists opened fire in the general area of Darazinda, Dera Ismail Khan, resulting in the martyrdom of one soldier and two civilians.

The ISPR statement mentioned that two innocent civilian employees of the company, Muhammad Faisal (35) and Asif Kamran (29), residents of district Karak, lost their lives in the incident. Additionally, Sepoy Syed Muhammad Shaheen Shah (33) from district Hangu, who was providing security for the project, also bravely fought the terrorists and embraced martyrdom during the encounter.

ISPR further stated that efforts are underway to clear the area of any remaining terrorists through a sanitization operation. The security forces of Pakistan remain committed to eradicating terrorism and supporting the area’s economic progress.

In a separate intelligence-based operation in Bara, Khyber district, one terrorist named Qudrat Shah, also known as Abubakar, was killed. The operation resulted in the recovery of weapons and ammunition from the deceased militant, who was actively involved in various terrorist activities.

Previously, the ISPR reported that two soldiers, Sepoy Abdullah (25) from Mardan, and Sepoy Muhammad Sohail (19) from Tharparkar, were martyred in a confrontation with terrorists in North Waziristan district’s Mir Ali area.

The military conducted a sanitization operation in response to neutralize any remaining threats in the area, as per the ISPR statement.

Pakistan has faced an upsurge in terrorism in recent months, primarily perpetrated by groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militants. In response, the state has initiated measures to counter these activities.

A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) released in October highlighted that security forces lost 386 personnel in the first nine months of 2023, marking an eight-year high. The report indicated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were the main regions affected, accounting for the majority of fatalities and attacks during the period.
