Foreign media reports indicate that this is the first amendment to the law since its establishment in 1907.

Critics have pointed out that Japan is known for being a male-dominated society, with women being underrepresented in high-ranking positions.

According to foreign media, the government in Japan is predominantly composed of conservative individuals who are often reluctant to implement changes concerning women’s welfare.

However, this recent revision of the marriage law marks a significant step towards addressing gender disparities in the country.
