Earlier, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) announced a reduction in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by Rs4.62 per kilogram for June. This follows a previous reduction of Rs3.20 per kilogram in May.

The finance division stated in a notification that the new prices were determined based on recommendations from Ogra and relevant ministries.

Ogra’s notification also mentioned that the price of an 11.8kg LPG cylinder for June is now Rs2,838.31, compared to Rs2,892.91 in May, making it Rs54.6 cheaper.

The notification further explained that consumers will now pay Rs240.53 per kilogram for LPG, down from Rs245.16 in May.

Ogra noted in a separate press release that the price of LPG is linked to Saudi Aramco-CP and the US dollar exchange rate.

On May 16, the federal government had announced that the petrol price would remain unchanged at Rs252.63 per litre for the next two weeks. However, the price of high-speed diesel was reduced by Rs2 per litre, bringing it to Rs254.64 per litre. These prices were effective from May 16 to May 31.

On April 30, the government lowered both petrol and diesel prices by Rs2 per litre, setting petrol at Rs252.63 per litre and diesel at Rs256.64 per litre.

On April 15, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that instead of further reducing fuel prices, the benefits of lower global oil prices would be used for development projects to support the public.

Ogra also reported that compared to the previous month, Saudi Aramco-CP decreased by 2.67%, while the US dollar exchange rate slightly increased by 0.35%, leading to the Rs54.6 reduction in the price of an 11.8kg LPG cylinder.

The government introduced a new bill in the National Assembly to digitally track petroleum products from import and production to retail sales. This aims to reduce smuggling and adulteration, which cause annual revenue losses of Rs300-500 billion and harm the environment and vehicle engines.

The Petroleum (Amendment) Act, 2025, proposed by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, updates the 1934 Petroleum Act. It includes new rules for using technology to track petroleum products, prevent illegal transportation and decantation, and take action against illegal petrol pumps.

In a related development, eight units involved in the illegal sale of LPG cylinders were sealed and fined Rs5,000 earlier this month.
