ISLAMABAD: Thousands of candidates from schools of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) expressed their dismay over the distribution of out-of-syllabus Islamiyat (Compulsory) paper for Part-I (9th class) examinations of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) on Thursday.

Many of them left the examination centres without attempting the paper as they were not prepared for out of syllabus paper.

The FDE, in a letter on Thursday afternoon, conveyed complaints received from heads of institutions regarding the out-of-course Islamiyat Part-I paper to FBISE. The FDE letter also asked the FBISE authorities to look into the matter and resolve it at the earliest in the better interests of students.

According to the FDE, the class-IX examination is a high-stake exam, and the out-of-course paper has created unrest among students and heads of educational institutions working under the ambit of FDE.

In September last year, the FDE had apprised FBISE of the decision of the National Curriculum Council to reduce the curriculum of Islamiyat-IX for the year 2022-2023. The decision of the Curriculum Council was accepted, and students were prepared from the condensed and reduced syllabus. However, the question papers distributed in examination centres were entirely from the previous syllabus, including long and short questions.

Controller Examination FBISE Aqeel Imran said that he also received complaints from various schools and examination centres and that he took notice of the complaints. A committee of FBISE has started investigations into the matter and will suggest remedial measures.
