ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his federal cabinet members have opted not to receive salaries or avail any perks as part of the government’s austerity drive, as per a report by Private Media on Wednesday.
The decision was made during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by PM Shehbaz in Islamabad, where discussions revolved around the country’s economic and security conditions.
Various agenda items were addressed, including a briefing on the Staff Level Agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the formation of the PIA Holding Company.
This move follows President Asif Ali Zardari’s choice to refrain from taking his presidential salary, aiming to promote prudent financial management and alleviate the burden on the national exchequer, as stated by the President Secretariat Press Wing in a press release on Tuesday.
