ISLAMABAD: To enhance voter convenience, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to waive charges for the SMS service 8300 starting from Monday (January 29), as the country approaches the general elections scheduled for February 8.

ECP’s Spokesperson Syed Nadeem Hyder, Additional Director General (ADG) Nighat Sadique, and the Project Director of the Project Management Unit announced this during a radio show today, highlighting that voters can access information about their constituencies and polling stations by sending their computerized identity card numbers to 8300.

The officials emphasized the necessity for voters to bring their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to the polling station for voting, clarifying that even if the CNIC is expired or if a token has been issued for a new CNIC, a vote can still be cast.

Ensuring fairness and transparency in the electoral process, ECP officials mentioned the implementation of technology-based mechanisms.

ADG Sadique informed that a substantial number of international observers have been invited to monitor the elections.

The ECP spokesperson stated that, according to the Election Act, a specified time limit has been established for the completion of election results. Presiding officers are required to send the election results to the election commission by 2 am.

In cases of delays, the returning officer will investigate and submit the cause to the ECP. It was underscored that election results must be finalized by 10 am the following day.
