ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir has cautioned the youth to exercise vigilance while navigating the digital realm, emphasizing the critical importance of scrutinizing news in this domain. The advisory was delivered during the Pakistan National Youth Conference at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Quoting a verse from the Holy Quran on the verification of information, COAS Munir highlighted that the objective of “propaganda” on social media is to “spread negativity and chaos” in society. Emphasizing the need for research and positive thinking, he stated that a society without these elements remains in chaos.
Expressing satisfaction in meeting the youth, whom he regards as the builders of the nation’s future, COAS Munir urged them to be confident in the country, its culture, civilization, and in themselves. He encouraged the youth to trust in their homeland and nation, acknowledging their role as guardians of the country’s bright traditions.
While reaffirming the army’s capability to combat terrorists, Gen Munir underscored the necessity of the entire nation’s cooperation in the fight against militancy. He asserted that the armed forces are prepared to counter any threat or conspiracy, emphasizing that the country will not compromise on its sovereignty.
Commending the nation for its abundant mineral resources, agriculture, and a demographic youth bulge, COAS Munir also recalled his December warning about the dissemination of “rumors” and “negative impressions” regarding Pakistan.
He noted that social media is being exploited to create an environment of chaos, despair, and panic, emphasizing the need for vigilance against fake news and misinformation. This warning was issued during his address to the National Farmers Convention in Islamabad last year.
