ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif is set to contest the upcoming general elections, with his party anticipating the resolution of legal issues within the next two months.

As per a report from a private newspaper, Muslim League (N) Punjab President Rana Sanaullah, while speaking to journalists, mentioned that Nawaz Sharif would not wait for by-elections to enter the electoral race. He expressed optimism that the cases against Sharif would be dismissed, and a decision on his candidacy would be made before February 8.

In this context, party leaders speculate that if Nawaz Sharif fails to receive a ‘clean chit’ from the courts by February 8, he may participate in the by-elections.

When asked about the possibility of Nawaz Sharif assuming the presidency of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Rana Sanaullah clarified that Shahbaz Sharif would continue as the party president, and Nawaz Sharif would fulfill his role in the current position.

Responding to a question about a potential alliance between the Muslim League (N) and the Muslim League (Q) in the upcoming elections, Rana Sanaullah mentioned that Nawaz Sharif is expected to meet with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain soon to discuss the matter.

Sources indicate that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) is hesitant about accommodating the Muslim League (Q) in the forthcoming elections.

It is reported that if Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain seeks three seats (two for his sons and one for Tariq Bashir Cheema), the party may consider the option of merging with the Muslim League-N.
